Joanne trained at the Northern school of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. Her performance career started with Kokuma Dance Theatre Company in Birmingham, which opened up opportunities to work and perform with world renowned African and Caribbean artists. Joanne was part of the Choreographic platform State of Emergency. With this company she co-directed Wild Roots Collective, touring nationally, which resulted in her being asked to take on the role of rehearsal director for four seasons. Joanne also became rehearsal director for: Tavaziva (Bopelo, Africarmen retour and Izindava) and Rosie Kay (Wild Party, Double Points K, Super Nova and 5 Soldiers). During this time she also worked as Movement Director for children’s theatre company, Tutti Frutti and inclusive family theatre company, Red Earth Theatre. Joanne is looking forward to the challenge and fun of the creative process for Red Earth’s Autumn 2019 show, Soonchild.
