Emil & The Detectives

Based on the book by Erich Kästner

An action packed adventure for the whole family.

Emil and the Detectives has been adapted by Red Earth from the Classic children’s novel by Erich Kastner. The story of how a boy and his friends track down a Bank Robber has been published in 59 languages and adapted for film and television 6 times since it’s first publication in 1929. This is the first theatre adaptation to be staged and toured in the UK.

For the children we worked with in schools, the story was about adventure, courage and loyalty. The book is both a Modern Fairy Tale and a fast paced detective story. The story of Emil is steeped in values we cherish such as solidarity, optimism and human virtue.

In our new age of anxiety, children have to believe the hero can triumph in the end.
